A Change of Scenery
Our team knows how to build software. But could we build a decent dinner together?
That was one of the unofficial challenges of HIPE Team Building 2026. We headed to Laiya, Batangas, ready for a change of scenery—and somehow found ourselves shopping at a wet market, preparing ingredients, and turning dinner into a full-team operation.
Of course, no team getaway is complete without good food and a few unexpected twists. And for us, the adventure began not with the beach, but with a trip to the wet market and a dinner we would all help prepare.

The Great Dinner Operation
Our first major operation wasn’t a software release. It was dinner.
Armed with fresh ingredients and varying levels of cooking expertise, the team got to work. From buying ingredients at the wet market to preparing the food, everyone had a part to play.

There was no shortage of helping hands as we worked together to get everything ready. Some took charge of the ingredients, others helped with the cooking, and everyone contributed in their own way. It was a little different from our usual work, but the goal was the same: make things happen together.
In true bayanihan fashion, preparing dinner became a shared effort, proving that teamwork can show up in the simplest of things—even in deciding what goes into the pot.
And after all that preparation, there was only one thing left to do: eat.
No Reservations, Just a Boodle Fight
After all the shopping, chopping, cooking, and preparing, it was finally time for the main event: the boodle fight.

With the food ready and everyone gathered around the spread, dinner became more than just a meal. It was a chance to enjoy the fruits of everyone’s efforts, exchange stories, share a few laughs, and catch up over good food.
The stories, jokes, and laughter flowed naturally, with conversations stretching beyond the usual topics and everyone simply enjoying one another’s company.

Sometimes, the best team meetings don’t happen around a conference table. Sometimes, they happen over a shared meal, with everyone reaching for their next favorite dish.
And unlike most project deliverables, this one was best enjoyed together.
The Beach Has Entered the Chat
If Day 1 was about teamwork in the kitchen, Day 2 took things somewhere a little less predictable: out on the water.

First up was the Disco Boat, a giant spinning inflatable ride towed across the waves. The challenge sounded simple enough: hold on tight and enjoy the ride. In practice, staying balanced while the inflatable spun, bounced, and moved across the water was a different story.
There was no controlling the waves or predicting the next turn. All we could do was hold on, brace ourselves, and enjoy the ride.
Between the splashes, the unexpected movements, and the challenge of staying aboard, the experience gave everyone plenty of reasons to laugh. It was the kind of adventure that made for great stories—and probably a few entertaining photos, too.
Because apparently, working together is one thing. Trying to stay upright together is another.
Small Island, Big Discoveries
After the excitement out on the water, our island-hopping adventure offered a different kind of thrill: the chance to explore what lay beyond the shore.

The island welcomed us with beautiful coastal views, reefs, and little details that made the trip memorable. Along the sandy shoreline, tiny hermit crabs scuttled about, each going about its own miniature adventure. We also came across an intriguing cave-like rock formation that added a little mystery to the scenery.
Then came snorkeling, where the view shifted from the coastline to the world beneath the water. With so many fish swimming below the surface, we got to appreciate a side of the ocean that you might otherwise miss from the shore.

From the fascinating sights along the island to the marine life beneath the waves, every stop offered something new to discover.
Sometimes, the best part of an adventure isn’t just reaching a destination. It’s the little things you notice along the way—and the people you get to experience them with.
The Best Part Was Never on the Itinerary
Looking back, the best parts of the trip weren’t necessarily the ones written on the itinerary.
They were the moments in between: lending a hand in the kitchen, preparing dinner together, sharing stories around the boodle spread, laughing through the water activities, and discovering little wonders along the island’s shore.

Of course, the beach adventures gave us plenty of excitement. But the memories went beyond the activities themselves. They came from the shared experiences, the spontaneous conversations, and the simple joy of spending time together.
The trip reminded us that teamwork doesn’t always have to look like a meeting, a project plan, or a shared deadline. Sometimes, it’s as simple as helping out, making room for one another, and turning an ordinary task into a memorable experience.
We came to Laiya for a change of scenery and left with stories worth sharing, memories worth keeping, and a reminder that the people behind the work are what make being part of a team meaningful.
Because beyond the screens, the projects, and the everyday routines, there’s a team of people who make building things together worthwhile.
Until the next adventure, HIPE.
